The Physical Education Program at St. Matthew’s is aimed to generate a level of well being, enjoyment and encompass fitness of physical activity in accordance with the Victorian Curriculum.
Students will learn the benefits of a balanced healthy lifestyle through physical activity, while also developing greater confidence, social competencies, being inclusive of pupils and self-esteem. This is achieved through the development of fundamental motor skills and involving students as skilled participants in challenging games, dance, leisure and additional sports such as; Swimming, Cricket, Volleyball, Soccer, AFL, Cross Country, Athletics and more.
St. Matthew’s has access to fantastic facilities that have been built which include; Soccer pitches, basketball/netball court, athletics track, senior and junior playgrounds and a wide-range of sporting equipment, for all students to move, grow and develop fundamental motor skills in safe and inclusive learning environments.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in extra sports day events such as Athletics Carnival, Cross Country (School and District) and Swimming Days, as well as Jump Rope for Heart and Ride2School Day, which promote a school wide positive awareness towards the importance of physical activity.

Grade 6 students will have the privilege to represent the school in the Banyule and INM Division for inter school sports.
